about

Carnegie Hall: This is a fairly obscure danzón-chá that we arranged in a unique way, blending Afro-Cuban bata drums and 12/8 rhythms with European instrumentation. The introduction features a canto and toque for Ochún, the Yoruba deity of fresh water and feminine beauty. She represents all things sweet and sublime, and therefore loves to hear the sound of the violin. Since Carnegie Hall has always been the ultimate destination of every string player, we thought we would combine these two musical traditions into one piece.
